Lindfield Literary walk
The walk commences at Lindfield Station. A walk beside the Tryon Rd Carpark takes us to Nelson Rd and the home of Billy Hughes (The Little Digger) better known as a politician than a writer but he produced six autobiographical and political works and was of course the subject of many more. The walk continues past some of Lindfield's distinctive Federation houses to Seven Little Australians Park named in honour of Ethel Turner who wrote this Australian children's classic whilst living in Lindfield. This park which follows part of Gordon Creek is a wonderful showcase of the sandstone flora of the North Shore and is a particularly beautiful place to visit in Springtime. The walk continues along Slade Ave and Northcote Rd to Wombin Reserve another delightful piece of natural bushland which leads into the garden of Mick Swain, the Sydney bookseller. Beautifully preserved by Ku-ring-gai Council and a team of volunteers this is a garden set into a gully in a style popular in the 1920's. Magnolias, azaleas, rhododendrons, rare historic roses and camellias all flourish beneath the mature eucalypts. This is a little piece of paradise to be savoured at leisure. The walk continues back to Lindfield station past several historic houses in Treatts Rd including Ethel Turner's family home and the home of the family which inspired her story of Seven Little Australians.
